LeBron on Caruso: "AC is whatever we need. He’s a Swiss Army knife, to be honest … he can do it all, he just helps our ballclub in so many ways.”
Vogel has talked about the
"good problem” of having a deep/talented bench. But, imagine Caruso's minutes will >>> when it matters.
FT’s were a wash.
LAL: 16 for 25
PHI: 16 for 26
To review, LAL were down 105-93 with 3:07 left.
They ripped off a 13-0 run to take a 106-105 lead with 11 seconds to go.
Then Harris hit the J with 3 seconds left. LAL were out of time outs, and AD’s desperation heave was well short.
After all that, the Lakers lose on a Tobias Harris jump shot that was closely contested by Caruso.
For the first time since it was 14-13, the Lakers have the lead, after a great ATO got AD rolling to the rim for a layup.
PHI ball with 11.2 left, LAL down 106-105.
LAL basketball, down 1, with 19 seconds left.
This has been an 11-0 run. PHI hasn’t scored since the 3:07 mark.
LAL within 1. KCP for 3. 1 minute to play. This has escalated quickly.
Well, LAL aren’t dead just yet tonight. Another quick push, this time 7-0 behind some strong @ACFresh21 play, has LAL within 4 at 105-101, and 1:45 to play.
Caruso had a layup, a 3, and then an offensive board that led to Schroder’s 3.
Schroder went on a quick 5-0 scoring run to make it a 9-point game, with 4 minutes remaining in Philly as LAL’s 10-0 start to the season on the road is in real jeopardy.
The FT line hasn’t been the difference, though. PHI has actually missed 10 to LAL’s 9 misses.
Sixers are +12 at the 3-point line tonight and have made more hustle plays, with 10 steals and 6 blocks to LAL’s 4 and 2.
Four straight FT misses from AD (3 for 8) and LeBron (8 for 11).
Another strong scoring night from @KingJames, who’s up to 31 points after hitting 3 straight FT’s at the 10:05 mark of the 4th Q. LAL trail by 8.
This game reminds me of Game 1 last postseason vs. POR and HOU, minus the high stakes. Lakers have just been feeling their way against a relatively unique Sixers team that’s huge on the interior. They've adjusted a few times within game, but it’s been an uneven game.
LAL have twice allowed PHI to open double-digit leads, and twice battled back to get within a few points, but they haven’t had the lead since early in the 1st Q.
Sixers up 81-74 heading to the 4th Q. LAL just 3 of 16 from 3 and have attempted 9 fewer FT’s than PHI.
Quick 7-0 PHI run after LeBron checked out. Deficit back to 9.
It’s a 13-2 response from LAL after PHI came out of the 3rd Q gates hot.
Trims the margin to 2 at 70-68 at the 4:36 mark. Defense has been strong.
LAL started 1 for 12 from 3 before B2B hits from LeBron and Gasol preceded a Schroder layup that capped an 8-0 LAL run, just after they’d again allowed PHI to go up double digits.
68-63 is the PHI lead as the Lakers once again make a counter push.
LAL rallied from an early 16-point deficit to head into halftime trailing by only 4 at 55-51, despite hitting just 1 of 11 3’s.
LAL were red hot from 3 all season until the last 3 games. At CHI, they hit only 4. LeBron hit 7 of their 10 at CLE, and Gasol has the 1 make tonight.
It’s been an impressively steady, measured response from the Lakers since Philly’s hot start.
Sixers went 12 for 19 in the 1st Q (63.2%) and were +3 at the FT line. In the 2nd Q, LAL have held them to 5 for 13 FG’s and have a 21-13 edge with 3:25 in the half.
LAL trail by 2.
